At the beginning of this year, out of pure serendipity, we met our publishers... Hachette (one of the Big Five of publishing!), very poetically, at a pub quiz!

The MD of Hachette came to us and said the golden words...'band jo baje tera...'.
Words which were enough to tell us our content had reached him.

Over a course of meetings, they offered us to write a book.

And honestly, we could sense a gap in the market...

Why is it assumed that we are either only curious as a kid or when we have to prepare for an exam...

We needed something for all curious folks like us!!!!!

So, like everything in life, we went ALL-IN! 💥

We (Momo & I) spent the last nine months putting our brains & hearts & blood & sweat & tears (no exaggeration) into writing our dream book.

Did you know?

Before his rise to political power, Hitler aspired to be an artist.

He produced hundreds of works when he tried to sell his paintings and postcards to earn a living in his youth.

He applied twice to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna but was rejected both times.

The institute noted that Hitler's works contained too few heads. And considered that he had more talent in architecture than in painting!

This fact blew our heads and made for an interesting quiz question in this episode of Grills Show

Where's Wally? is a British series of children's puzzle books created by English illustrator Martin Handford.

You have to find Wally (the guy made at the top) amidst this crowded illustration.

Fun fact:  It would take Martin up to 8 weeks to draw a two-page sketch of "Wally" and the characters surrounding him - it is so detailed!

Asia's largest mango orchard is not anywhere else but in India!

Right in the place that had a lot of celebrities sprawling recently - Jamnagar!

Story time:

In 1990s, Ambanis received several warnings from the Pollution Control Board to do something about the huge pollution caused by their oil refineries.

That's how this mango orchard was set up by planting 1 lakh mango plants in nearby wasteland.

They have over 200 species of mango trees in an area of 600 acre!

This fact made for an interesting quiz question in this episode of Grills Show

Can you think of this body part which can't heal itself?

Its because of this reason you have to visit this doctor frequently and you dread those visits.

It is the teeth!

Enamel, the outer layer of teeth, lacks living cells, preventing it from undergoing self-repair.

Compared to bones – which have plenty of blood vessels running through them – tooth enamel doesn't have any way to get fresh oxygen and nutrients. 

Hence, any damage to it requires an external intervention.

Now you know why we have to visit dentists so often!

The word "astronaut" is derived from two Greek words: "astron" meaning "star" (as in "astrophysics, astrology") and "nautes" meaning "sailor" or "navigator" (remember "nautical miles?")

Therefore, when combined, "astronaut" literally translates to "star sailor" or "star navigator."

Astronauts are people trained and certified by NASA or European/Canadian/Japanese space agencies to carry out professional work in space.

Cosmonauts, on the other hand, are people specifically trained by the Russian Space Agency to work in space.

The word cosmonaut comes from the Greek words 'kosmos', meaning 'universe' and 'nautes', thus translating to 'universe sailor'.

So they are all just sailors, in a different medium! :)

Tons of companies want that .ai domain.

Any guess which country is benefitting the most from this?

It is Anguilla. A tiny island in the Caribbean with less than 20,000 population.

Since the 1990s, it has been in charge of assigning internet addresses that end in ".ai".

Similar to India and domains ending with ".in".

It was estimated that Anguilla would have received 25-30 Million Dollars in domain registration fees in 2023! 

That's a benefit of AI no one saw coming! :)

The smell of grass when it's cut is an odour caused by release of compounds called "green leaf volatiles" (GLVs).

Maths is all around in Nature.

Don't worry if math haunts you. We will explain it in the simplest words.

Enter Fibonacci.

The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers beginning with 0 and 1, each number being the sum of the two before it.

It begins 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 and continues infinitely.

Add any 2 consequent numbers here and notice it results in the third number (eg - 3+5 = 8)

This is Fibonnaci Sequence, cool?

It was developed by the Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci in the 13th century, but it was known in India much earlier - possibly back in the 7th century.

Where is it found in nature?

The number of petals in almost all flowers is a Fibonacci number!

You might not find it in all flowers, but most, yes.

But why is it so?

It is said that this helps in the efficient packing of seeds in a flower - helping pack a lot of seeds in less space.

It also helps in the optimal distribution of sunlight and nutrients across the flower.

Each part of the flower gets as much exposure to sunlight and access to nutrients as possible.

And wait, we are a part of nature too, right?

1 nose, 2 eyes, 5 fingers, WOAHHH!

You might have also seen this image often:

Now, there is one more secret to this sequence:

If you divide each number in this sequence by its predecessor:

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34...

Meaning 5 divided by 3 or 8/5 - then as you move toward higher numbers, the result becomes a constant.

Approximately = 1.61803, also called a phi or more commonly known as...

Now, this one might be an entirely separate topic for another day.

But for now, know that it is found everywhere - from architecture, design, nature, human anatomy and even - finance!

Last week, people learned a lot from this quiz we shared here about vegetables vs fruits.

Botanically, fruits contain seeds inside as they come from a flower - which means bhindi, cucumber is a fruit! All other edible parts of the plant are vegetables.

But there is one fruit which has its seeds outside. Which one is it?

Don't know if we ever told you, but dil se we three are makers. We like creating anything - we just happened to bump across content creation one year ago.

But before APH:

Mohit had a decade of experience creating products and services (literally 10+ years!). By experience, we mean tons of success AND failure. Shall tell you all his stories someday.

He has been the kind of entrepreneur you see in Shark Tank. His head is always buzzing with ideas. This is him working on our new project.

Okay, Swati is a natural content creator, for sure. But when we 3 ran our marketing agency - Swati was the lead runner. She can create a brand new system, make everyone run on it and make ANYTHING work. Natural magician.

This is her creating magic for the new project.

Nipun has also experimented with different ideas over time. Mostly failed. But always learnt something. Last year, she tried being an artist. Yup, random. But this is her working on the new project.

This new project will be revealed on our YouTube at 6 PM today.

Shared all this here to tell you how we feel at home working on this. On making a valuable, new product.

SPAM is actually a meat brand. 

Yup, you read it right.

But how did a food brand come to mean “useless mail”???

The origin of the brand name “SPAM” is a secret by its parent company - Hormel Foods. 

It's only known to a small circle of former employees.

Popular belief says it’s a contraction of the words “SPiced hAM”. 

This seems believable, considering their initial package looks like this:

It has also been speculated as an acronym for "Shoulder of Pork And Ham."

But their current website says this:

Anyway, let Hormel keep its secret. 

But SPAM meat became SPAM mail because of this famous skit. 

This skit was made in the 1970s by Monty Python's Flying Circus - a very popular British comedy series which aired on the BBC.

In this skit, the waitress in a restaurant kept saying SPAM while reading the menu. 

Yes, SPAM, as in the brand we just read about. 

That is when a group of people at the corner table started to sing a song repeating “SPAM”. 

They kept singing it till nobody in the restaurant could hear each other. 

This is how SPAM came to be known as an annoying message that keeps repeating itself and interrupts you.

Spam, referring to messages rather than the food product, was first added to the Oxford Dictionary of English in 1998.  

Meanwhile, Hormel has the trademark to use the capitalised version of the word.

In some parts of the world (China, Hawaii etc.) you will actually find McDonald's selling SPAM burgers!

The opposite of Spam mail is Ham mail.

But there is an internet slang term that refers to any email that is not necessarily spam but is still not as important as Ham emails.

Eg. - Brand notifications, newsletters (ahh, nooo!) etc.

It starts with "b___" and is named so because it is just better than spam.

🤯 WOAHHH! fact

This is the place where you see 16 sunrises and sunsets every day.

Where a day changes to night and night changes to day every 45 minutes!

This is the International Space Station.

The ISS has been up there, in the Low Earth Orbit, for the past 20 years.

It is Earth's research lab in the space.

It is moving around the Earth at a very high-speed velocity.

At a speed of 27,724 km/hr, to be precise.

That's covering 7 km every second!

Which also means that these sunrises and sunsets last for just a few seconds.

But why such a fast speed?

To catch more sunsets! (hehe, no)

Simple answer:

It is very close to the Earth's surface.

Being so close, it experiences a strong gravitational pull.

Which keeps it going.

But to stay where it is and not get pulled inside, it must move quickly.

That is why it covers 16 orbits of the Earth in 24 hours.

The farther you are from the Earth, the less the planet's gravity pulls you, and you can move more slowly.

Feel like going to ISS right away...

BTW, you can also spot ISS in the sky!

According to NASA, it is the third brightest object in the sky and can be tracked from here.
